“The essence of domestic luxury” Genesis GV90 expected to be released in 2026
While Hyundai Motors held a groundbreaking ceremony for its Ulsan EV-only factory at the new plant site within the Ulsan plant on Monday the 13th, news about the launch of the Genesis next-generation electric vehicle was delivered. Hyundai Motor Company announced that it plans to produce premium brand Genesis' ultra-large SUV electric vehicle model for the first time at the new plant.
The Genesis brand's ultra-large electric SUV model is known as the GV90. As the name suggests, it is a flagship SUV model that is one class above the current Genesis GV80. Genesis previously completed trademark registration for the GV90, and plans to release the GV90 as a dedicated electric vehicle model.
The Genesis GV90 is equipped with Hyundai Motor Group's next-generation electric vehicle platform eM. As the next-generation platform of the current E-GMP, it is characterized by expanding the scope of parts commonization based on an integrated architecture. It is reported that the range of common module system combinations will more than double compared to the existing one.
Additionally, the driving distance is expected to increase significantly. Hyundai Motor Company previously revealed its eM platform development plan and said it aims to improve the driving range on a single charge by more than 50% compared to the current model.
Wireless software updates and HDP (Highway Driving Assist Pilot), a level 3 autonomous driving technology, are also expected to be applied here. Currently, Hyundai Motor Group is delaying the introduction of HDP technology to improve its completeness.
The Genesis GV90 is also expected to release a special model that maximizes luxury. It will be released as a limited edition model of a few hundred units, and it is reported that coach doors similar to those of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan will be applied. A coach door is a door that opens with the first and second row doors facing each other.
Meanwhile, the Genesis GV90 is scheduled to be mass-produced as the first model at Hyundai Motor Company's Ulsan EV plant in the first quarter of 2026, and the price is expected to exceed 100 million won.
